Check-in that kept the line moving
7days of arrivals, one check-in screen
Context
The diocese's 120th anniversary brought a week-long celebration and thousands of expected guests. Registrations had been collected through a Google Form — full of duplicate entries, and with no way to check anyone in when they actually arrived.
What we built
A registration and check-in web app built for the event itself. The existing registration list was imported and deduplicated, so the door list matched reality before the first guest arrived.
On-site check-in is a single fast screen: find the guest, confirm, next in line. It works on whatever device the volunteer at the gate is holding.
The engineering was sized to the job — SQLite for a bounded event workload, deployed on Railway in days, not months. A cathedral event does not need a cathedral of infrastructure.

How it went
- Duplicate registrations were resolved before the event, not at the gate.
- Check-in ran across the full week of celebrations, including dignitary and VIP arrivals.
- The organisers kept a clean, exportable record of who actually came.
